"Working folder not accessible"

I have used VSO/ConvertXtoDVD for years. I'm very happy with the product.

The other day while making DVD's all of a sudden I started receiving the following error message:

"The working folder is not accessible, cannot be written or does not contain enough free space."

I have tried everything I can think of. I uninstalled ConvertXtoDVD (7) and re-installed it. I temporarily shut off my anti-virus software as suggested. I've tried changing settings in my anti virus (ESET INTERNET SECURITY latest edition).

Windows 10, 16GB RAM, over 1TB free space on hard drive. Worst of all, I changed absolutely nothing before this problem happened.

I'm getting nowhere. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Seems that your working folder is in DVD or in thumb drive.
Post log to check for it.

try uninstall

Then on reinstall on about 3rd or 4th screen in, there is a screen that gives option to do a clean install

I do not understand "thumb drive" quotation. The folder is on the main drive of my PC.

I have un-installed and re-installed the software several times.

I shut off anti virus. Failed.

I renamed the folder. Failed.

I made a new folder and put it in a new location. Failed.

I made a new folder and put it on different hard drives. Failed.

The support I'm getting from VSO is worthless. I am angry.

Do as JJ suggested. Post the log file.
Don't expect any immediate help from VSO at the moment.
This appears to be something from your end, since nobody is complaining about it.
Could be an early symptom of a failing drive.

having the same issue. im using 7.0.0.61 because 7.0.0.64 will not work for me i have a lifetime membership and a dedicated drive just for cxdvd but when i install the update i just get "Working folder not accessible".

I'm also having this same problem where I can not select the working folder and mine is 100GB and I'm also using ConvertXtoDVD 7.0.0.61 because ConvertXtoDVD 7.0.0.64 will not let me select the partition on my drive I want to use,it say that it is not big enough but at 100GB it far exceeds what the ConvertX is asking for.

Please hurry up and fix this problem.

It is impossible to fix something that can not be reproduced, and as this is not happening to everyone, those who have been affected they should post conversion logs for inspection.

try uninstall then reinstall using latest version, but this time on about 3rd or 4th screen into reinstall, there is a screen that gives options to do a clean install.

Also as far as doing the clean install thing that won't work because I had to reformat my PC just before posting this stuff on this forum and I installed the latest version onto a PC with a fresh installation of Windows.

Try creating a folder in N: and set working folder to that folder instead of whole drive N:
For example N:\Conversion and then set that in general options to be working folder.

Good, then it is because windows is not allowing "delete all" type commands in root of drive,
but allows it inside folder so CxDVD has to use a folder.

Hello,
after some check the problem comes from the use of the root of a drive (i.e C:\ or I:\) as a working folder. It's not coherently handled in ConvertX. For instance it's allowed to set a drive's root as working folder in the settings, but it's rejected after in the write access checks.


So I've entered a bug which can be seen here:

I'm not sure it is a good idea to let user's use a drive's root as working folder, but if this root is the one of a thumb and/or external drive, why not that could make sense.

If you can limit it to thumb drives only then yes, but it really is not a good practice to use root folder of any drive as a lot of damage can be done by accidentally setting to wrong drives root.

agree need to protect users by blocking root as working folder or save folder. Maybe give warning message to users if they attempt to set root as default, that they need to instead use a folder
Users can so easily set the default folder.
