A version of VSO Downloader compatible with BBC iPlayer

Post by Claire »

The recent version (4.3.0.22) is not detecting content on BBC iPlayer,

Until a newer version is published with a fix, you can use this old version which should be working fine, 4.0.0.19:

Hi, I would just like to add some more info about using the previous version, which I have been using for a couple of years now.

- It seems Downlaoder always detects and downloads the HD version of the programme, regardless whether you are currently streaming the SD version, so 1 hour = 2GB. Need to have some way to choose the resolution of the programme.
- The detection is problematic, it always picks up the 3 second channel Ident as one download, then for the programme itself you sometimes have to stop/play or search/play to get the detection to work.

Hope this helps, obviously you need to be in UK to check this out....

Look forward to the new version....

we released a beta version that fix some issues with BBC, it is available here:

By now there is no option to select the quality it always download the better.

Can you provide an url to reproduce?

Thanks for your reply.
I tried this beta version today, detection is much improved over 4.0.0.19 version.
One thing , I notice the HDS working folder is not deleted in this version on closing the app, please can you fix that.

Thank you.

Hi, Seems the BBC is working on a new player using HTML5,see this link

http://www.bbc.co.uk/html5

I tried their beta on your new software but it detects all the small pieces as separate files.

Can you look into this, otherwise VSO Downloader will be of no use for iplayer.....

Thanks.

thanks to report the information, before to support a new player we prefer to wait they set it by default as there is usually a lot modifications during this period.

I'm also not getting any BBC programs to download/detect with the new VSO 4.4.0.4. Any helpful hints to do so? I'm using Firefox to access the BBC iPlayer.

Benjamin,

Just tried with 4.4.0.8, and it only downloaded 13 b and it says "Download completed with error". Nothing plays in the VSO Player from the download.

Any idea when it will be? I was able to download from the BBC using VSO Downloader until recently.

they often change streaming protocol, by now our priority is to support the HTTPS, I cannot give you a date for this one.
