You should read the Announcement 1 sticky at the top of the forum that says to read it before posting. Reading it would have told you that you're using crap media to start with. If it's branded as Sony then Sony has outsourced it to CMC Mag for manufacture and their stuff is garbage.

And normally you should burn no more than half the rated speed of the media, and with crap media even slower. However, either this media doesn't have a slower speed or your burner can't recognize it.

JoeB

The best DVD-R you can buy is Taiyo Yuden, Made in Japan, Media ID TYG02 or TYG03. Unfortunately, it isn't sold in many places and most people get it online. I'm fortunated to live in Canada where Memory Express sells it, online with free delivery in Canada on orders over $39.00 (which would be 2 100 packs of Valuline Taiyo Yuden) or in their stores in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. Taiyo Yuden is usually even less expensive than many brand name stuff you find in retail stores, but much better quality.

Otherwise, most Verbatim are good but they also outsource some of their manufacturing nowadays. You cannot go by the brand name but should at least purchase from retailers who, on their websites, actually give the Media ID of the media.

Here's a link to a site which lists the media ID of various classes of media. However, for some reason they have put CMC MAG into second class when in the past it was in third class. It should remain in third or fourth class, so somebody screwed up. Look for media with ID that's in the first class list:

Good luck!

JoeB

Hi,

I also live in Canada, and here are the medias I buy (Already have plastic cakes so they come wrapped in bubble wraps, no cases at all...

DVD-R 8X TAIYO YUDEN VALUE LINE SILVER LACQUER (100 PCS)

https://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=421

$20.95

+ tax and shipping, that makes it less than $0,30cents canadian for each media.

Those are TYG02 but mosly TYG03 now.

I have never ever bombed one of those on hundreds and hundreds of burns.

And if you do quality scanning (PiPo Scans) I always get 95% and + on each burns regardess of the burner.

Exactly the media I've been using for ages, and like you I've had hundreds of burns with only 1 that didn't work and scanned with an error - and that could have come from a batch where I dropped a bunch of them and maybe scratched one. Looks like the ones I'm getting now from Memory Express will burn at 16x, TYG03, but I still burn at 4x for safety.

Hi JoeB,

Since I got my new i7-920 PC, it came with the LG LH-20 BD-ROM (DVD-Burner) in it.

The lowest speed available for TYG02/TYG03 & Verbatims MMC-004 etc.. is 8x

I still get 100% error free burns on those and still get 95%+ PiPo Scan Quality results.
