Menu - titles in columns - running order

Hi,
I've got a problem I hope someone can help with please. I've searched for the answer in this forum but had no luck finding a solution.
Here's the situation:
I've imported 10 files and created a menu. The template created two columns but it made item 2 the top item in column two. I wanted the titles to be listed as 1-5 in column one and 6-10 in column two, so I rearranged them into that order.
However, when using the Remote Control simulator, when I push the down arrow it goes from item 1 to item 3 and then item 5 and so on. The only way to move through the menu in the correct order, is to use the right arrow of the remote, which is illogical for my layout.
Maybe I'm being stupid, but I can't work out how to solve this one! Help please!
