Lately, when downloading movie files I cannot convert them to DVD, keeps stating "we have a problem here" one or more files were not downloaded, but they do play on my pc, but not VLC. When I open for mp4 or mkv on pc they open and play. But cannot convert.

I have used ConvertXtoDVD for years, havenot run into this for this long.

Source file is bad. Check the file or redownload.

As was said, it's the source file. More than half of the files found online are generally corrupt in some manner. You could try to see if you can fix it with a free piece of software called AVIDeMux. Load the file in that and choose a different Video option other than Copy like say x264. You may want to change the Audio option, too, just to be safe. Then, save that new file. This saving process will probably take some time. Then, see if CXD doesn't choke on the AVIDeMux output.
