Music Downloads

Post by rwmol »

Has the recent government crackdown squashed downloads from our favorite sites? Classic example Grooveshark.

Which government are you referring to?
And how does that relate to this forum?

I believe I saw or heard a news release where the US government is cracking down on web sites that use advertising as an excuse to allow music downloads from their sites. Grooveshark is now using some type of filter which won't allow any downloads with VSO Downloader. The downloads now come back with an error.

Ok, that might affect websites that are in US and programs that are made by US companies.
That should not affect anything else.

Downloading from Grooveshark should no longer be a problem with the latest beta version:

Thanks Louis. I downloaded the latest version a couple of days ago. I haven't mentioned this before because I was waiting for the "dust to settle". The secure stream file from Grooveshark downloads but every file I've downloaded brakes apart in the middle to the end. It seams to be just fine in the beginning but the finished product isn't complete.

On another note. I still don't know why they haven't added "X to the Taskbar" to the options. It would seem to be a simple task for a developer.

Could you send me a technical report via the support page? I just downloaded some mp3 without problem.
http://fr.vso-software.fr/contactform.p ... =technical
The Downloader retrieves the file as fast as Grooveshark's buffering (= preloading of the audio file) so you need to let it finish to get a complete file.

Concerning the "X to taskbar", it sounds relevant because it would allow users to better customize their settings but as we want to keep the interface as minimal as possible I don't think we will implement it. At least not until we face many requests, which is not the case here.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Your Technical Support page has no provision for attachments. Wouldn't you want an example of the issue? I let the download complete and in every case there's a problem. It's like a needle skipping on a record. I've tried different media players with no change.

Let me know how you would like me to proceed.

This log contains one streaming download from Grooveshark Mobile. I allowed the download to play until the file was complete. I also listened to the streaming music as it was being download to be sure it was clean.

The log is attached as well as the music file. You will find interruptions at the following locations:
:12 sec
1:24 sec
1:49 sec
1:58 sec
3:22 sec
3:41 sec

Hopefully this helps

My previous post used the beta version of VSO Downloader.

The following attachments use version 4.1.0.13. The "skipping" in the song starts at 2:23.

Testing and no problem so far.
Have you tried selecting WinpCap driver instead of VSO Eve?
Were you using a peer-to-peer software at the same time by any chance? I remember having noticed that kind of skipping issue when I was streaming on youtube with uTorrent active in the background. A low internet speed or at least a decrease in speed due to a peer-to-peer program may cause losses of packets (i.e. parts of songs in this case).

Thanks Louis. This thread can now be closed as "Solved". The WinpCap driver created a perfect file with no orphans. Again, thanks for hanging in there.
