Hello Coral,

I think you are confused between maximum bitrate and average bitrate settings.
The maximum bitrate setting displayed in profile editor is only used to limit the video bitrate for some devices (like iPod, iPad, smartphones...) that doesn't support high bitrate.

If you want to fix the average video bitrate (the value displayed in MediaInfo), go into video editor and click on the video stream to open editor.

You will found 3 different tabs:
- Tab 1: This part allow user to set video fit method and image rotation
- Tab 2: This part allow user to do some image color corrections (brightness, contrast, gamma...). Note: this part will be in position "3" in future versions.
- Tab 3: This part (added since 1.0.0.16 version) allow user to set video bitrate (that you want to do), and to have an idea about the gobal video quality (displayed as gauge levels).
Use the "video bitrate" editor to set your average video bitrate you want on output. Note: this part will be in position "2" in future versions.

I will fix maximum bitrate (in custom profile editor) issue in next version.

Hello,

The software is still in full development and is still ßeta.
I am not sure if VSO is selling, but it's available to us GoldMembers to test the ßeta.

Let me speak with a VSO Official and see what is the estimate for a release date.

Hello Cedric,

Thank you for the explanation. I still find the two settings rather confusing.

(1) Form other converters I have been using, some just allow the maximum bit rate to be specified and then the converter will adjust the conversion for the best VBR between 0 and the given bit rate in kbps.

(2) Other converters I have been using allow you to specify the lowest bit rate and the highest.

So in (1) only one setting is required and in (2) the settings are next to each other, labled as Min. bit rate and Max. bit rate.

Is there a chance of having mpg2 conversion in Coustom profile for standard TV PAL and NTSC 16:9 and 4:3 AR. Somthing like you have in DVD Video but not as a VIDEO_TS folder. Just an mpg file which can be used in the authoring of DVD movies.

Hello Coral,

"(1) Form other converters I have been using, some just allow the maximum bit rate to be specified and then the converter will adjust the conversion for the best VBR between 0 and the given bit rate in kbps."
That's exactly what VSO Video Converter do...
You can specify the maximum bitrate if you want (it's an optional setting), but Video converter always compute the good average bitrate value (regarding video resolution, video codec, framerate...) and use it as default.
That mean you can import your file in program then start the conversion without changing the default video bitrate.
The video bitrate setting is here for users wanting to get higher video quality (by increasing bitrate value) or lower file size (by decreasing bitrate value).

"(2) Other converters I have been using allow you to specify the lowest bit rate and the highest."
Sorry but I think the low bitrate setting is an useless setting. Can you give me an example where you use this setting?

Mpeg2 will be added in future version, but I need to close some other tasks before.

I completely agree with you. I just mentiond it because I have used converters that have it.

Thank you for the future addition of mpg 2. I wish to make one more sugestion if you will be so kind. Is there a possibility to code (.ini perhaps) the converter window and the editor window to keep the size and positiion like CX2D does.

The main window size/position of Video Converter is already saved/resored at launch (if this doesn't work for you please let me know)
I can do the same for video editor too, will add this in future.

Hello Cedric,

It is only the Editor window that is not keeping the settings.
Please check this too:
After this error, it will not be possible to edit the profile and that profile will have to be deleted.

Problem already fixed for next version...
By waiting this new version, you can manually edit your custom profile file located here:
C:\ProgramData\VSO\VSO Video Converter\1\custom_profiles
You need to change the 'max_b' values.

Hi Coral,

Are you using v1.0.0.16 ?

I can't reproduce your crash, does it always happen 100% of the time ?
With a specific file or with ANY files ?

 I think I have a clue about what's happening. Try this:

1) Add a movie file. Mine has been a .mts movie clip.
2) Open the video editor. DO NOT PLAY THE CLIP.
3) Try and change one of the Fit methods.
It is happening whenever the video editor for some reason does not display the firtst frame of the movie.
Notice the blank black screen with the play button but with no picture. It happens then.

Hi Coral,

MPEG2 TS won't do it for you ?

How about making your own Custom Profile, use .AVI container, and there's an MPEG2 option you can use.
Would that work ?

I'm afraid it will not work it has to be mpg2. Otherwise I will have to convert the movie using a DVD Video profile, for me it will be PAL 16:9. I would then rip the movie from the VIDEO_TS folder as mpg 2. However I will not have to do this because I have other converters that can convert to mpg2 with perfect AR. I would be hapy to use the VSO Converter because it is faster and with better quality.
See PM.
