I have run into this issue before. My solution was to find a different 'file/s' that would work. This time I have not been able to find a different file/s, so can anyone have a suggestion for a different program that might resolve my issue. I am mergeing 5-6 short files, deleting some 'audio' files. These are Japanese animation that I keep the English audio parts and delete the Japanese audio parts.

I see lots of those messages in your log.
Either those files are weird and making the software act weird and/or reboot your machine and see if without lots of other tasks running you are able to convert without getting these errors again.

*BUT* it does say Resuming paused task, so it seems to keep on going, but something is chewing lots of memory

Probably some h264/265 files in the mix. VSO has a conversion tool for those types of files to get them compliant with CXD's current version. Search for it on their website and see if that helps.


If that doesn't work, I would try converting each one one at a time in CXD by themselves to see which file(s) CXD chokes on. Then use something like AVIDeMux to convert that file into an MP4 using a different video codec. I use x264 which seems to work all the time when I import AVIDeMux output using x264, even though I thought CXD didn't support h264. But, maybe it was 265 instead. Video formats are not my field of expertise. :D

Before I saw your replies, I used any video converter to change the 'mkv' files to avi and then I used convertx and it worked.

So issue resolved.

I will look into your suggestion the next time the issue shows up. I did try "one" file to convert with convertx and it worked, so there might be something in what you said.

Oh, that's what it was! H265, not 264. 264 is compliant, but not 265. You had to convert down to 264 with 265 files. That's why my AVIDeMux x264 conversions worked.

That's truly sad. It's 2023, not 2013. There is absolutely no excuse for a video program to be on the market in 2023 that can't handle a codec that was standardized in 2013. Windows 7 was the dominant Windows version in 2013 and support for it has long since ended. It is extremely sad to see these VSO programs still on the market trying to compete with vastly superior programs that use modern technology programming and AI. There are quite a few Freeware programs that are more advanced than VSO programs. It's time for VSO to close shop. It is an embarrassment.

In VSO's defense, it does plan to release a 64 bit version of CXD, which is necessary for it to handle 265. Version 8 will be 64 bit and can process 265. However, VSO, to my knowledge, still only has the one programmer working on all of its applications. So, work has progressed slowly and will continue to do such. DVD is low priority because, although it isn't dead, it's been a dying format for years.
