Discs won't play

Post by Rattlesnake »

Dear all,

I have recently had the pleasure of upgrading from ConvertxtoDVD to ConvertxtoHD. This weekend I took some time to try the new software. After some problems with the encoding settings, I've finally managed to encode my first projects in a resonable amout of time. The problem I am facing now: Once the projects are put on a BD, they won't play. I've already tried encoding and burning four projects. No matter whether I burn the discs within ConvertxtoHD or with another programme. Before, with ConvertxtoDVD, I've never had this problem :( . Could anyone guess, what I am doing wrong here?

Attached you'll find some two log files of projects that went through hours of encoding, then burning and that won't play now.

Good morning Rattlesnake,

I don't even have a BluRay burner, so I can't test burning BD media.

But I am sure if you could provide lots more details to VSO, it would definitly help...

What BD burner are you using ?
What media are you using ? (We can see the Media ID in your logs)
What bluray player are you trying to play those disks on

Did you cut segments out of titles or merge any? I hope so because that causes mine not to play and I can't get staff to be able to reproduce it where it can be fixed. I did tons of testing and Finally figured out any projects where I didn't mess with the files, it played fine, yet any of them I cut segments out of titles, it would NOT play. It looks like it's loading the disc fine and about o play then just stops without ever getting to the title menu.

There are so many weird bugs with this. For instance sometimes it says it can't recognize certain files which convertxtoDVD recognizes just fine, then on other versions those work, but previously working ones show as unrecognized.

But mostly the problem I want fixed is like you where it won't play at all.

I burned at 480p, in case that ahs anything to do with it. I think I tested with 1080p and it did the same thing with that too, though.

I am having the same problem. The discs play fine on the VSO player, but will not play on my Samsung Blue-Ray player. They stop at 0:0:0. I can move from chapter to chapter, but the disk does not play the content. Here is the most current log;

Thank you very much for your replies!

Here are some interesting news:

1) The BDs I have produced so far do play when I use the VSO Media Player. For some reason though, the VSO Media Player skips the menu of the discs and starts to play the first video on the disc right away. I cannot find the option to go to the disc's menu - where could that be?

2) The discs still won't work with other players such as the VLC Player. How could that be?

3) Most interestingly: The same BDs play fine in a regular BD Player connected to a TV. In the BD Player the BDs start with the menu and everything else seems to work as well. How could that be?

For the production of the BDs I am using the LG BH16NS40 Blu-Ray Burner with Verbatim 25GB BD-R 6x discs.

VSO media player does not play menu, it goes directly to first title.
BR player does play menu.

Where do I find that player? Is it a VSO product as well?

Is there a Software that plays BluRays including the menus?

Got the solution for anyone interested: The open source programme "MediaPortal" does the job, playing BD-Rs including their menus.

Try converting without having any hardware optimizations enabled.

FYI VLC does not know how to play a blu-ray structure but does play individual m2ts files.

PowerDVD does know how to play Blu-ray folders
