I am relatively new to the VSO downloader, but I must say it seemed to have worked much better before I was a paying customer.

I am finding that whenever the software detects a video, it downloads it and gives it the file name getinfo.mp4, getinfo(1).mp4, etc. In other words, the actual name of the file at the site from where the file is being downloaded is stripped away in favor of this generic nonsense.

Any insight appreciated.

the algorithm to auto rename download has not been changed recently, usualy if the result is not the same it is due to a server update, please provide an URL to reproduce.
