DivX software playback problems

Post by Frederik »

DivX playback problems

Irrespective of compatibility settings converter output avi’s do not play properly on the latest DivX player (software). If “seek” is used (that is, playback is selected forward in the movie or the movie is fast-forwarded) the sound is out of sync As an example if a playback point 2 minutes into the movie (0.02.00) is selected the video plays properly but the sound starts from 0.00.00, if another playback point is selected the video plays properly but the sound starts from from the previous stop point 0.02.00, and so on

My normal action for seek errors on an avi file is to run DivFix++ v0.34 but his does not work and notifies this error:
09:13:23: Seek error on file 'E:\VSO converter out\Movie.avi' (error 87: the parameter is incorrect.)
Thousands of times.

I am in the process of converting 1,000+ DVDs to avi’s so that I can use my media server to play them back and I need compatibility. Whilst I can live without DivX playback (just) I cannot live with the possibility that all my avi files are corrupt and have playback problems.

DVD Converter will not recognise the file.

I have made sure all my DivX software and the Xvid codec is up-to-date and have tried all combinations of compatibilty settings.

Can you advise should I proceed with the conversions?

Thanks

I tried - output from DVD Converter is still incompatible with software DivX Player.

Sound is out of whack after a seek.

There must be someone else trying to use DivX player?

I have posted a video "DivX playback audio out of sync 1.mp4" at https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?ci ... C337E!1500.

This video shows:
1. MediaInfo for an .avi file produced by DVD converter.
2. The result of tying to input that file into DVD converter showing an invalid avi result.
3. Playback of the file showing audio in sync at the beginning and then out of synce after each "seek".

I think it is reasonable to expect that avis produced by DVD Converter follow a standard that is compatible with DivX?

Is there a problem with your software?

Thanks JJ,

DivX Plus Player, version 813, Build 10.2.1.23 Nesmith, I jave uninstalled/reinstalled the player, just in case - this problem does not occur with other avi's.

I use Generic avi / HD ready (720p) / H264 Cuda, It has also occurred without the Cuda option.

I will test another setting.

I installed DivX Plus player and it refuses to play AC3 without additional codecs.
I have AC3 codecs, and any other software can play those files with no problem.

If sound is issue on your system and only with DivX Plus player, then check which codecs it is using and go to those codec settings.

I have always had AC3 installed anyway.

Some success - I did the following test:

1) I started with a small avi file and ran it through DVD converter to be certain that it was written to the DivX standard.
2) I input the divx/avi file to Convertx4 to produce a DVD structure
3) I ran the DVD structure through DVD Converter (HD Ready 720 H264 CUDA 6ch) and opened the output with software DivX Plus Player - sound out of whack (only after a seek)
4) I ran the same DVD structure through DVD Converter (Low resolution H264 CUDA 2ch) and opened the output with software DivX Plus Player - sound out of whack again (only after a seek)
5) I ran the test DVD structure through DVD Converter (Low resolution Xvid) and opened the output with software DivX Plus Player - sound = OK.
6) I ran the test DVD structure through DVD Converter (HD ready 720 Xvid 6ch) and opened the output with software DivX Plus Player - sound = OK.

None of the avi files are accepted by DivX Converter.

My conclusion is CUDA does not produce an avi that is compatible - a pity to have to sacrifice the impressive speed to get it to work.

Problem is not so simple.
Avi does not fully support h264, and DivX does not support higher than 720p resolution.
That is why most releases are now in mkv.

There are numerous sources that claim "h264 in avi is problem and may break at anytime".

Finally got a reply from DivX, it really looks like they are not keeping up:

Dear DivX user,
We curretnly (sic) do not support 3viX video codec for conversion or playback. You will not be able to use this file with our DivX Codec.
For a complete list of supported formats, please read here:
http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/player

Thank you,

I have had similar issues with the media player,I have installed DIVX which does play it,but I don`t like being beaten so when I get the chance I will try the link for codecs that you suggest.
Can you help me with another issue?I`ve shot some footage in portrait format but cannot find a way to rotate it for playback.
In future I`ll use only landscape format.
