Re: How to crop videos?
You don't need to worry about the resolution. 1. Choose AVI-Mpeg4 for your output profile since that is the format of your original file, not AVI-Xvid. 2. Crop the player control bar from the bottom and save -- make sure Symmetric values is unchecked. 3. Convert. That should convert to a 16:9 aspect...

Re: How to crop videos?
The method you use will depend on the format you are converting to. Method 1 will work with formats that allow custom resolutions while 2 works for all formats including DVD and Blu-ray that offer limited resolution choices that can't be changed, but it changes the screen's appearance. I might be ab...

Re: How to crop videos?
There are two possibilities.
1. Use a custom profile with a custom resolution where the vertical resolution is reduced by 40 pixels.
2. Compensate for the cropped 40 pixels using padding or additional cropping as described in http://forums.vso-software.fr/post79531.html#p79531

Re: What does "Use best video quality" achieve?
The question of what the best video quality option does has been asked several times but the only response from VSO was Cedric's initial announcement that it would be added in http://forums.vso-software.fr/latest-beta-of-convertxtodvd-5-0-0-39-t16789-60.html#p82558 -- specifically, "This option...

Re: Are you getting best menu background conversions?
In case you aren't aware, there is a fairly easy way to add an intro clip to existing DVD files that is professional looking (no blank spot for example). It is detailed in the last post of http://forums.vso-software.fr/is-it-pos ... t7664.html.

Are you getting best menu background conversions?
The video/image and/or audio background duration settings were introduced in version 5 to make it easier for users to set menus up for best play. But what is best play for backgrounds? It can be illustrated with the attached file. 1. Unzip the file and add the 30 sec clock w tenths.mp4 file twice to...

Re: Feature Request: Add Option "Keep Aspect Ratio"
Thanks cedric. Those equations are versatile and have been checked for accuracy with many test files. The Remove black bars option does work now in 1.5.0.11 for all previous my test cases. I even tried a new one with padding on all edges and it removed all it should, leaving only what was needed for...

Re: Feature Request: Add Option "Keep Aspect Ratio"
Project.jpg Here is more evidence that my equations for Crop All Edges in http://forums.vso-software.fr/calculating-crop-pad-values-for-the-video-resize-editor-t9319.html are good. The image above shows a project with four files to be converted to 16:9 NTSC. The first file is the 2.25 AR.mp4 alread...

cedric,
The Shortened 2.25 AR.mp4 I uploaded to your FTP site is OK to use, I was mistaken when I wrote it wasn't in a post above.

Re: Feature Request: Add Option "Keep Aspect Ratio"
Thanks for the new results Suse18. I will upload a shortened version when I can and notify you by email. I did upload a shortened version with the bitrate also reduced (Shortened 2.25 AR.mp4) to save time with my slow dial-up connection, but none of the Fit methods in Video Converter have any effect...

Re: Feature Request: Add Option "Keep Aspect Ratio"
The file has a DAR=2.25 and PAR=1.0. It is one I made from a still image several years ago, along with several other similar ones at different aspect ratios, for checking ConvertX problems. It does have 4 pixel tall black bars top and bottom and the rectangle was supposed to be square but came out w...

Re: Feature Request: Add Option "Keep Aspect Ratio"
Hey cedric. I tried the Remove black bars feature in 1.5.0.10 with a 2.25 AR, 720x320 mp4 file converted to 16:9 NTSC DVD. Images from the video editing window are attached. The first one shows that 76 horizontal pixels are needed to be cropped from each side with the Pan_Scan Fit method in order to...

3. Desired result after I manually added estimated horizontal crop values by try and error method = Looks OK but not sure if it is the correct Aspect ratio. You got close by trial and error adjustment. The Remove black bars button cropped 74 pixels top and bottom. Use equation 7 in http://forums.vs...

Re: Feature Request: Add Option "Keep Aspect Ratio"
To retain the Original Aspect Ratio I need to estimate (don't know how calculate exactly?) the correct values for left and right cropping and add them accordingly, which may result in still incorrect aspect ratio. There are equations in Calculating Crop/Pad Values for the Video Resize Editor in the...

Re: Is it possible to create a custom menu for a mini bio?
Here is more detail for toaddub's proposed method for adding a short bio or intro clip to play before the menu displays (it works great): 1. Convert your intro/bio video clip by itself using the No menu option. 2. Convert your main project (without the intro) using any menu you like. 3. Select File ...

Glad it worked, thanks for letting us know. Title Centering I also noticed the title is not centered though Align=MIDDLE_CENTER is set (I haven't changed this). You can see in the video attached. Maybe it's being thrown by the LeftMargin=4? Menus are laid out on a 720x576 pixel canvas with all dimen...

Re: Great! Need a little advice to modify the classic templa
The most comprehensive menu template editing guide is http://forums.vso-software.fr/tattoo-s-menu-template-editing-tutorial-t15694.html If you want to eliminate the menu intro and outro completely, 1. Delete the intro_duration and outro_duration lines. 2. Delete all sections containing \Anim\ but no...
