1. You are using very old version - even of v2 series. Check on this forum for link on that.
2. You use crap media (CMC MAG) but burning was successful.
Most likely that dvd works on that computer but being crap media it jumps and skips on most dvd players.
3. Your XP is SP2, that means that there is no support for it from Microsoft and most programs now expect user to have SP3 installed. Some programs don't work at all without SP3.
Only reason to keep SP2 is having pirate version of XP. That is your choice of course, but to keep your system running properly it is good to have all latest updates properly installed.

I must strongly disagree about the only reason for keeping SP2 is because of using a pirated version of XP. I'm using a legit XP SP2 and have not gone to SP3. The main reason is that, while it seems to be fine for most people, I know others who have gone to SP3 and found that some of their older programs don't run properly under SP3. I particularly found this to be the case with Paint Shop Pro v.9 (which is my main image editing software.

At present I haven't found one program that I do use that doesn't work under SP2. That includes the latest Photoshop CS5 (which says SP3 is a requirement but it apparently isn't 'cause it works just fine for me) and the latest Womble Mpeg Video DVD for video editing. So just because Adobe expected me to have SP3 installed doesn't mean that the program won't work with SP2. Just the opposite, in fact.

I've always felt that the best rule of thumb is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." There are many Windows updates that have broken various things for people, and they should be installed with caution. Using a good firewall, having good anti-virus and malware software, maintaining an updated Hosts file from mvps.org (optional) and practicing safe surfing and safe program installation are just as effective as most of the security patches that come from Microsoft and have the advantage that they don't break things that are working for you.

And, as a related matter, there is a firmware update for my LG burner that I haven't installed either. I actually spoke to LG's free live tech support and the guy told me that if I wasn't having any problems with burning then don't bother updating the firmware. I don't know how many DVDs and CDs I've burned but it's definitely well over a thousand and no issues, so no update required.

JMHO.

i only buy them on sale too-13 bucks instead of 30 bucks
i have no complaints about them
1 or 2 MIGHT fail outta every 50 i buy-i just try another dvd n everythin is fine-no biggie

I agree with jj about your crap media, regardless of how long you've been using it. One of the things that makes it crap is the complete inconsistancy in quality, because the manufacturers of crap media (like CMC Magnetics) don't actually have anything worth calling quality control. They just make it as cheaply as possible and as fast as possible, and sell it to companies willing to put their brand name on almost anything, particularly because most people don't know how to identify crap media and tend to believe (falsely) that the brand name counts, without realizing you can put a brand name on anything, regardless of who manufactures it.

Your crap media may or may not be the problem, but it is the only thing that stands out like a sore thumb in your log. Unless you try better media like Taiyo Yuden or decent Verbatim there is no way anybody will be able to eliminate your present media as at least part of problem, so you'll likely be stuck wasting more discs.

Another thing I notice in your log is this:

6/25/2010 6:44:09 AM info Init success: DVD-R packet writing

Go to you Setting>Burning and see if there is a checkmark in the box to use SAO for DVD-R discs. If not, checkmark it and try that.

Also, read the sticky about burning issues and make sure you are set up to burn in DMA mode. The instructions are available there on how to do that.

well i retried the same exact conversion usin same exact settings and it worked just fine
i also made another dvd the next day with no problems too
so ill agree that it was most likely my crap media
but again i dont mind one or 2 failin outta 50 when im only spendin 13 bucks [on sale]
i just wanted to make sure there wasnt a major problem with anythin before i wasted more dvds on the same conversion like i did with my problem back in november
sooo thanks for replyin--much appreciated

That's not actually a cheap price for crap media. I buy 100 packs of Taiyo Yuden Valueline DVD-R discs for $23.00 Canadian at Memory Express in Canada. Those are likely the most reliable media of their type available, and I've only had one coaster out of many hundreds of burns with them. They also have the added advantage over crap discs of longevity - i.e., the dyes won't break down over time nearly as fast as they will with crap media, so they're much better for safe long term storage.

You generally can't get Taiyo Yuden from big box stores but they are available from reliable online retailers for prices not much more than I pay for them here.
