Hi VSO. Your resize product works really well, and is essential as Microsoft haven't made their equivalent PowerToy available yet.

However, after a couple of re-boots, the VSO Image Resizer option has disappeared from the right click context menu in most cases, eg it doesn't appear when I right click a .jpg file in my Pictures folder. However it DOES still appear when I right click on the root of my C: drive (although I don't think I'll try and resize that to 1024x768 pixels!).

Re-installing appears to briefly fix the problem, but then it soon disappears again.

Any assistance greatfully received.

Hi,

What version are you using ?

v1.0.12 is the latest public release.

There is also a newer ßeta version, but not sure if it fixes Vista issues.

I will speak with the Image Resizer Author and see what he says.

In case the file type association for a given image type has been modified, Image Resizer has to be re-installed in order to get the context menu entry back.
Sometimes just re-installing will not help though, due to some other registry setting that got changed. In such a case run the reg file in the attachment. This should solve the problem!

Thanks for the speedy response! The file version on the .exe file shows as 1.0.12.53

I fired the .reg file supplied into the registry and then killed and restarted explorer.exe to allow it to pick that up, but it didn't make any difference.

Interestingly, it seems to be that the context menu is appearing for any folder (including root of drives, which it doesn't like!), but not for any file.

The author is most welcome to contact me directly to arrange an MSN chat or phone call if checking my machine settings would help debug this issue.

Regards,
Peter

I wasn't aware that a new version was available (I tend to disable all that automatic version checking (because other programs do it by running at startup) so it's my own fault!). Have downloaded and installed it now. Will give it a couple of days and then confirm results.

Thanks very much!

No problems so far, it's working great. Thanks VSO! Looks like the latest version has fixed that fault.

Cheers!

I'm sorry to inform you that this problem still exists in 1.1.14.57. I installed it on a fresh install of Vista 32b Ultimate and i needed the reg file to fix it. Confused

Let me give you a little more info on this problem:

Windows Vista allows a new way of associating a filetype with an application. (Someone might call it a feature, I call it a disorder, but you'll see...)
This way will for example be used when you change the associated application via right-click > "Open with" > "Select default program".

What it does is store this application under registry key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\<extension>\UserChoice

As soon as this happens, the normal file association under HKCR, where the shell extension is stored, is ineffective. Hence, no shell extension for this filetype anymore!

So the bottom line is, don't change file associations this way. Of course, this doesn't help if some other application is doing it, or even Windows itself.

Hi - I'm a new user of your software, and I really do like what I see.

However, I run 64-bit Vista and I'd like to know when you'll have a version out that supports 64-bit shell extensions so we can get the right-click context menu in the native explorer?

Thank you!

Just wanted to mention that I successfully used the resizer_repair tool just now to restore VSO Image Resizer to my photo right click menu(s). This is on Vista Home Premium 32 bit and I am running VSO Resizer Ver 1.3.4.4. Nice to have this forum to help with such issues! Thanks.

This thread is obsolete. Issue has been resolved in the latest version.
Please make sure to use Image Resizer v2!
