I have recently become a Gold Member and purchased all of VSO's software. I have tried to make a PhotoDVD using PhotoDVD 3 and add 1, 2, or 3 audio tracks to the resulting video, but just before the compiling process, I received an error message that indicates a Stack Overflow when a DVD Writer is selected. This Stack Overflow condition appears to occur when more than one audio file is compiled in the video. The program indicates the added audio will be looped which tells me that only one audio file can be used with a video. If this is the case, why provide an opportunity to add more than one audio file when building the project if the program will/can use only one of them? If a DVD writer is not selected the output file is written to the hard drive but before the file is written I always get an error message that the “Format '%s' invalid or incompatible with argument.” Once I click on the Okay button the compiling of the files starts. When the compiling is complete the resulting video is automatically burned to a DVD that when played on a home DVD player freezes and the audio track is distorted. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

The program has the possibility of selecting 1 of the 3 parallel playing audio tracks. When the total time of the added audio in that track shorter is as the slideshow, it says (audio will loop) it will start with the audio for that track from the beginning when last audio has finished, but not the slideshow itself. The same for the other way around and then it says Audio will be cut off.

I have download version PhotoDVD version 3.0.5.86 and installed. The original error messages are no longer displayed and do not appear to be occurring, but I still have the problem of video freezing primarily when the music becomes distorted. The project is only 43 minutes long with less than 400 pictures compiled and an audio file that is less than 4 minutes. It is my understanding that there is NO LIMITATIONS as to how many pictures I can include in a project other than the limitations of the DVD being used. When the video begins, the audio track plays through without any distortion (but only one time). When the audio begins its loop, the audio dies about half way into the first loop. When this happens, the video freezes. When and if you can advance to the next picture in the video the audio MAY or MAY NOT restart again. The following information supports this problem:
1. Audio distortion @ 8 minutes 5 seconds.
2. Video stopped @ the same time.
3. Advanced pictures in project and audio started again @ 8 minutes 17. seconds.
4. Audio distortion @ 13 minutes 10 seconds.
5. Video stopped @ the same time.
6. Advanced pictures in project and audio started again @ 13 minutes 21 seconds.
7. Everything stopped completely @ 16 minutes 1 second.
8. Advanced to 17 minutes and 33 seconds before video and audio started again.
9. Audio stopped @ 24 minutes 1 second.
10. Stopped again @ 32 minutes and 1 second.
11. Stopped completely and would not start again @ 33 minutes and 13 seconds into the video.
Note: It would appear that most of these stops and audio distortion are occurring at the chapter change over. I do not know if this has anything to do with the video freezing and music distortion or not, but it is a thought.

Some additional information on the problem with video freezing and music becoming distorted during playback after compiling a project using PhotoDVD 3.x.x.xx. I have attempted to compile a photo DVD using PhotoDVD version 3.0.5.86 to see if the problem has been resolved. To my dismay, the problem still exists, however, I did notice that if I compile a photo DVD with only photos and no audio track included, the DVD would play straight through without freezing. This would indicate that the problem with the freezing is indeed associated with the inclusion of an audio track when compiling the DVD project. Is an updated version of PhotoDVD anticipated to resolve this issue in the near future? Thanks for all your assistance.

I am quite disappointed in the fact that my concern pertaining to video freezing and the music being distorted during playback when building a project to record with PhotoDVD has been closed without any corrective actions (at least, this is what is indicated in the Forum). I was pleased with the almost immediate actions concurring with the discrepancies noted on June 28th, 2009, however, I am still having the same problem (even after adjusting the writing speed of the writer as directed and using a different brand of DVD blank media. I am sure I am not the only end user having this problem. I purchased a Gold Lifetime Membership because I had been informed that VSO stood behind their products, but had I known that I would have problems with the software and not receive sufficient technical support I definitely would not have made the purchases. I suppose once VSO receives their payment the end user is forgotten about. I’ve been requested to lower the recording speed and to use a different brand of DVD which I did; the problems still exist. The information listed below was received from Cedric on 8/25/2009 indicating that a NEW beta version was being tested and that I would receive the link to it once the testing was complete. I have not! That information is noted below the line which was copied directly from the email that I received from him. I went to your website and downloaded the latest version of PhotoDVD (version 3.0.9.4), built a project with three separate audio tracks and recorded the project to a DVD-RW at 2.4 writing speed (the lowest writing speed of an RW) and still have the same problems. Most notable:
1. The recorded project audio stops when changing to chapters 2, 3, 4, 6, 11 (14 minutes in) and chapter 12 (14 minutes in and 16 minutes in).
2. The entire project (audio and slideshow) stops 11 minutes, 14 minutes and 16 minutes into playing the slideshow.
3. The audio will only loop on the track selected so none of the other two tracks will ever play unless you stop the slideshow and select a different audio track to play. There is no real reason for adding more than one (1) track to a project since the program will not loop all tracks to play in sequence.
Note: In item number 2 above the slideshow stops completely at approximately a chapter changeover. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the program but I would appreciate some resolution on this matter.

I'm just updating the PhotoDVD burn engine, and I will send you the link for the beta version today...
The problem you mentioned can be fixed by using other DVD brand and lower write speed.
I suggest you to wait for the next beta, but if you have always same problem, we will try other steps...

The program will play all added audio files what are in 1 of the 3 audio tracks.
You can add more then 1 audio file(song, whatever) at a track(playlist).
You can select 1 of the 3 tracks(playlist) what will be played during the slideshow.
Is the amount of songs shorter as the slideshow, it will loop, if to long it will cut audio at end of slideshow.
You can make so a slideshow whit different spoken languages or audio.
Same idea as a movie DVD where you can select different languages.
This feature does also apply to the subtitle tracks.
- Please post the log file of the problematic compilation.
- What is the Media ID of the used disc?
- Does the compiled file (VIDEO_TS.IFO) play with a software player ? (PowerDVD, MPC, ...)

The media ID is irrelevant in that it does not matter what name brand I use I still get the same results, however, Media ID is noted throughout this log file. The problem exists regardless of whether I use my home theater player of PowerDVD player on my computer. even though I downloaded version 3.0.9.4 the log file above indicates it is actually 3.0.9.6 so the problems still exists in this version as well.
Thanks for your assistance. It sure would be a relief to get this program to work since I have an abundance of photographs that I would like to place into a slideshow that I could share with family and friends.

Hi
The media is VERY relevant. Have you tried a DVD-R known good brand?
The error exceptions in each conversion do not look good at all. I have never seen this with VSO software, although some early versions of CXDVD produced some errors like this.
Have you checked all files are viewable and ok? One bad file could cause a big problem!

Thanks for your response. I have verified that all files both jpgs and audio files are good and do not have any glitches in them because I had assumed that a bad file would cause some kind of error. As you can see from the log file I have tried burning the project with two different writers but I still get the same results.

Also ... The firmware for that USB Burner (HP USB DVD Writer 640v QOUC) is 3 1/2 years old!
You cannot find a newer firmware, or use an internal burner?

Thanks for the suggestions. Note in the Log file I have tried to use different media and different DVD writers; the same results.
The audio files are mp3 files.
When the project is being built and recorded that is the only activity that is going on; I do not bother anything on the computer while burning any disc (CD or DVD). I cannot see that media has anything to do with the problems since I have used several different name media to no avail, but I will try to burning the project without the audio files and see what happens. Thanks again.

I have sent the file via VSOSendSupportFile2.exe and by all indications, it was transferred and received without any problems. Be aware however that even though I only sent the one file I am trying to add three different audio files to the project during the project build and resulting recording process. I do not know what happens after the multiple crashes with the file that I sent (the first file) because the additional audio files are not looped and therefore they are not played during the playback/review of the slideshow. During the playback process the only audio file that is played is the file that I sent to you.

I have downloaded your mp3 file and added to a short project. (source file seems ok to me)
I do not hear a difference between the source file and the audio played from the conversion.
Burned the compilation on a +RW disc and that plays without a problem.
PHD v3.0.9.6
PowerDVD8 (VIDEO_TS.IFO)
stand alone player
OS: XP Pro SP3

have you tried compiling to your harddrive and watching the result with VLC?
How is that?
Can you send a screenshot of the settings you have set in the imaging tab?

Claire,
I have burned a project with three audio files in playlist #1 onto an +RW and it plays just fine (completely through) on my computer however, when I try to play it on my home theater unit the following conditions occurs:
1. Sound stops @ chapter #2 @ the 2 minute mark but slideshow continues.
2. Both sound and slideshow stops @ chapter #3 @ the 4 minute mark; advance using the scan button on my remote will start the sound and slideshow from the stop point.
3. Sound stops @ chapter #4 @ the 6 minute mark but slideshow continues.
4. Sound stops @ chapter #8 @ the 14 minute mark but slide show continues.
5. Both sound and slideshow stops @ chapter #9 @ the 16 minute mark; advance using the scan button on my remote will start the sound and slideshow from the stop point.
6. The disc stops completely @ Chapter #11 at the 19:59 minute mark and will not advance at all.
Attached is the screen shot of the settings in the Imaging Tab.
Please note that in each case listed above when the projects stops it always occurs at approximately a chapter transition point.
I have not tried converting the audio files to some other format to see it the problem is with the mp3 files. Do you suppose this could be the culprit?
