Sometimes users contact us to say the burning doesn't work because
- they cannot see their burner
- the disk is not detected
- there is a burning error
- the disk is not read in the player
- etc., etc.
Users think the problem is coming from the software, but quite often it can be a hardware problem.
Troubleshooting can be rather complicated. Here is the first and easiest thing to do.
- Try and burn with the same burner, and the same brand and model of blank DVDs but with different software. If even the other software doesn't work then maybe it is the software is not the culprit.
ImageBurn is a free burning application. We suggest testing with it:
- Download ImgBurn and install it.
- Now in the case of testing a burning problem from PhotoDVD, ConvertXtoDVD, or burning DVDvideo with CopyToDVD select "Write files/folders to disc"
- Select the file created by PhotoDVD/ConverXtoDVD/or the file you want to burn with CopyToDVD. For PhotoDVD and ConverXtoDVD you will generally find the target folder under C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\application name (i.e. ConvertXtoDVD). There is in most cases a sub folder within the folder you want to burn, being either just a Video_ts folder or both Audio_ts and Video_ts folders. You want to select the parent folder. In this screen shot the folder is called "My_Favorite_Movie_cd1" (the name of my project)
- Select the burner you had a hard time burning with (in drop down just above the burn button). Insert the same brand and model of blank DVDs you had problems burning before and press the burn button.
- Enter a volume /disk name or leave as is and press ok. When you see this summary window, press ok. (You should see it say Content Type: DVD Video)
If you have success make sure the save the burn log created by ImgBurn and send it to VSO Software by email. Hopefully this will allow VSO to fix the problem that could exist in their engine.
In log window go to File / Save As, and save it to your desktop and attach it to your email.
If you have an error, then something is wrong with your hardware. Check the following points:
- Are you using quality brand disks (like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony)
- Is your burner's firmware up to date
- Are the cables connected correctly
- Do you have any other software interfering (AnyDVD, game drivers like Star Force)
- Run a CD cleaner
- Is you DMA activated |
