|
|
We have nearly completed the build of VSO Image Resizer 3
we have added a new module to make easier the transfer of pictures to a Digital Frame.
GUI has been updated, new filters added, and new method of resize too
here is the link for that beta version :
http://download2.vso-software.fr/vso_image_resizer3_setup.exe
your feedback would be welcome |

Sorry, not sure what you mean. The original issue outlined by your video (window appears large, then small) has been fixed long ago. _________________

What I mean is when you right click on a photo and click VSO Image Resizer it opens a little sluggish. Like you can see part of the interface and then maybe a second later the rest feels in.
I would like it to open up fast and shown right away.
Understand what i mean?
I relize its not a huge issue but it would be nice if it open instantly. |

Ok I installed version 3.0.0.18 and yes it does indeed improve it.
But its still not perfect. Definitely better but not perfect.
Maybe over time you can make it even better.
But thanks for trying |

| let's say we will wait for the final and mass diffusion of the version to optimize it later. |

On topic of blank window or slow start. This is related to using shortcut in Explorer to use mass resizing of files in selected directory and its sub-directories. If there are lots of images (1000+) and the directory isn't cached it takes quite some time for VSO Resizer to read all the files and this is why the main window is unresponsive - It might take 10min or more if you're resizing 40.000+ files.
In the latest version the main window shows but until it reads all the files, it's still unresponsive. I would like to see a dialog message that Resizer is busy.
One other thing I noticed with large image lists. That after awhile processing slows down to a crawl. I don't know where is the problem. But stopping and restarting the Resizer seems to cure it - but it's very inconvenient. If I watch the process with Task Manager it usually occupies like 40-50% of CPU time (90-100% of one core CPU). When it slows down, it uses from 10-15% of CPU time. The system is idle like 80-90%.
With this in mind (uses one core)... will your V3 use other cores as well (multi-core)?
As I understand Resizer V2 is multi-core but haven't really tried it - I like new versions and living on the edge
| Quote: | Key Features
* new v2 : new engine, 2x faster, support multi-core CPU
* new v2 : works on file, folder and subfolders
...
|
Edit:
One more question. Is a x64 version planned? I believe it would speed up processing at least 20%
Edit2:
When image processing completes and I click Close, I always get error: List index out of bounds (5049) - the number isn't always the same.
Thanks |

about image list parameters, it is true that the action to pass a lot of files could be more problematic that passing 1 folder information.
for the multicore, I will ask
for the 64bits version, it is not planned, because unfornutly the compiler
we are using ( Delphi 2010 ) doesn't have true 64bits output
thanks for the feedback, we will do what we can to improve the application feedback |

Thanks for the information.
I'm just trying version 2.2.2.1 which is supposed to use multi-core, but while processing images the Task Manager is around 50% - which indicates use of only one core. |

Also just wanted to add that I am not sure if its just my PC but the Setup file for VSO Image Resizer Beta Build 3.0.0.30 and early builds is kind of slow to get started!
Anyone else see this?
I think it should be a lot faster!
My System
Windows 7 64 Bit Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram

That is true. I noticed slow Setup start in all recent releases. I guess it has something to do with querying the registry.
btw:
I use Windows Vista X64 SP2, DualCore Athlon X2 with 4GB RAM. |

This download link doesn't work. So I used the link in the first post, that is also V3.0.0.50.
Fully working progress bar would nice, but as I said, it's OK that we get some info that program is still working and it's not hang. This progress bar sometimes won't close when the files are read and application is fully loaded and it just hovers over application window. I don't think that loading the files is any faster then before.
Problem1: It still uses only one core
Problem2: It still slows down after awhile (every 1000 processed images is slows down gradually. After 10.000 processed images it's really slow... and uses max 10% of CPU - system is like 90%+ idle.)
Problem3: Error "List index out of bounds..." still appears when closing application after processing images.
It would be nice to add a setting to disable showing a preview of resizing images. I guess it would also speed up processing a bit(?). |

current version is build 3.0.0.101 , do you confirm any improvement over large projects ?
for the multicore, it is especially visible if you use high quality filters such Lanczos, but I need to check with developpers if it has been correctly set |

Problems 2&3 seem to be solved - great
About multicore... I use downsizing of 5-10Mpix images to about 3Mpix with Lanczos filter and quite high jpeg compression and CPU usage is around 40-50% in my dualcore cpu setup.
Thanks! |

I just installed VSO Image Resizer Beta Version 3.0.0.138 and I am happy to report that the setup file is way faster now!
Thanks. |
