ok so im abit of a noob with all this but i have DVD+R's (1-16x speed)

Ive seen under "Settings" "Burning" it has the 16x option although...

after you have converted it only gives you up to 8x, can someone explain why and how i can achieve the best quality DVD's

Your burner's firmware doesn't recognize the 16X ability of the disc, and even if there was updated firmware your burner might not have that capability.

But more important, burning at the highest capable speed of either your burner or the disc is generally guaranteed to provide a lower quality output than burning at a lower speed, so don't even bother trying. The general rule of thumb is to burn no more than half the rated speed of the disc, and most people use no more than 4x. That will generally result in a burn that has the least chance of containing errors.

Hi,

16x, 18x and 20x burning is a sales pitch for the salesmen !

When it comes to getting a good quality burn, listen to all the technicians and burn at 8x MAX

I burn everything at 4x since anything higher, my PC is so busy it can't even feed the burner that fast. I think I hit 6x once anyway.

burning a dvd-video at x16 x18 or x20 is absolutely useless.

your home dvd player will read it at x1.

so, we recommend not to burn over x8... I personally burn all my dvd-video at x4. It's enough
