[Solved] [Feature Request] Force subtitles ON

Postby Ch3vr0n » Fri Jan 25, 2013 12:19 am

Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't see this available anywhere. I was wondering if there was a way to force a subtitle ON (to show without having to enable it via title root menu or dvd remote). The only option i can find atm is to set a subtitle as default but that's different.

I'm looking for an option to force subtitles on for playback but still keep them selectable (thus NOT harcoded into the video)

I believe the problem is that people have the option in their standalone DVD players of selecting subtitles to be on automatically or not not be on automatically. If I recall correctly (and I do stand to be corrected), DVD standard does not allow the DVD to override the settings users choose in their DVD player's options. People would get a bit annoyed if they found that DVD manufacturers were overriding the options they had selected for their DVD players. :-)

one subtitle out of several can be set in CXD as the "default" subtitle. If a "default" subtitle is defined it should play automatically with the video file (this does depend on players if they are reading correctly or not this tag).

if that is the case, would it be possible to do part of what the image sais? Set a subtitle to "default" and to set "set to default for all titles", by rightclicking on the subtitle language name (in this case "dutch"). So you wouldn't have to go into advanced settings anymore? I'm all about simplifying things :) and getting what i'm after in as little clicks as possible :)

That doesn't sound like it would be useful to many people.

Typically forced subs are used for foreign language parts and would be in the same language as the audio and the first subtitle track of the disk.

who said anything about forced subs. i didn't. forced subs are usually already hardcoded into the video. I'm talking about the ability to force a subtitle (eg .srt track) on by default (NON FORCED) without having to go into the root menu everytime for each video title.

I'm sorry but that is exactly what forced sub's are. That is how they are defined in the DVD standards. They are not hardcoded. They are on by default. Your player may or may not be able to turn them off. But they are never hard coded.

Typically, like I say the are used where there are small bits of foreign language in a film. Like you're watching x men, the black widow speaks in Russian for a minute. They are forced sub's. They aren't hard coded. They are a subtitle track that is on by default.

if i follow your logic, then an english movie with a dutch subtitle track that defaults to on during the ENTIRE movie would be forced track. euhm no

a forced track is eg English movie with small italian language spoken and english subtitles on that part, and then again NO subtitles. THAT is a forced track.

Just because i like to have a specific track ENABLED to play throughout the entire movie does not make it a forced language track. What i'm asking is being able to set the subtitle to default on without going through to the advanced settinsg or having to go to the title root menu. It's the same command.

besides: all that "forced" thing is besides the point. All i'm asking for is the ability to set a subtitle track to be set to "default" by rightclicking on the subtitle name and to be able to set it to all titles in the current project at once if wanted. So i wouldn't have to go the subtitle tab under the previeuw window anymore for each title, then click on the track, then go to advanced settings, then tick the box to "set to default". That's about half a dozen click PER stream, if you have like 10-15 titles on a disc thats damn annoying and a massive amount of work

Being able to "set subtitle as default" on a per title basis would be like 2 click x 15 instead of 90 clicks for 15 titles
Being able to "set subtitle language as default for all titles in project" would be like 2 clicks in TOTAL for the entire project. Major timesaver

Any update on this issue? All i'm asking basically is being able to "default" a subtitle set to go on, by clicking on the shown subtitle language label and not having to go to advanced subtitle settings everytime. If you like me often have upto a dozen files per project, it would be a major timesaver. Click subtitle language name for a video title > default subtitle on, go to next title, repeat

It varies depending on the kind of video it is (movie, series) and or what type. But this generally varies from 0 to 2 streams. Not as much, but the amount of video files however on a disc can generally go upto a dozen or a bit more. It's a major hassle to go into advanced settings for every video if you've got over a dozen streams with multiple subs. It would be super easy to have the same "default on" functionality by simply clicking on the language of the subtitle.

Example.

Disc has 12 video streams; test.avi, test2.avi, test3.avi upto test12.avi
2 subtitles per video file: test.nl.srt + test.en.srt, test2.nl.srt + test2.en.srt, etc...

These would be identified by CXD as

Title 1: test.avi
subtitles: <dutch> <english> <== it would be super easy here to simply have to rightclick on <dutch>, and select <default on> and not go into advanced settings

Title 2: test2.avi
subtitles: <dutch> <english> <== ditto

etc, would be a super timesaver and way easier

What could be added is a setting found under general settings/ tab "subtitles"
[ ] Set subtitle as default for playback
when check user can select language in drop down list that appears beneath this option.
(if not checked language selection is greyed out)
Hint: If multiple subtitles streams are listed with same language identifier, 1st stream will be the default for playback.

Do you confirm this would meet your request?

If that setting would be applied to ALL video titles in the project, that'll do just fine. Hell it would be even quicker then what i suggested. I would only have to specify that setting in the settings and it's all done. I wouldn't even have to rightclick the language identifier on a stream. All i'm after is to be able to set all subtitles for a set (primairy) language to default on.

So be my guest and add it. I'd be happy to help test the thing :)
