Error while opening file

Postby mikesev » Fri May 25, 2012 8:02 pm

I am attempting to create an audio CD using a folder that contains 9 mp3 files. I'm using version 5.1.0.3.
Only 8 of the 9 files move to the project. If I try to move only the 1 mp3 file, I get an error that says "Error while opening file."
How can I find out what's wrong with this file? It plays perfectly in Windows Media Player and VSO Media Player.

Thanks

Logs from CopyTo and VMP should show what is wrong with the file.

The log for Copyto is empty, and the log for VMP shows no error - the file played fine.

It does not matter if there is error, log should show file properties.
You can also use any 3rd party tool to check file properties.

If your VMP log is showing that one file - then you need external tool to check on that file.
Is that file on shared folder? Sharing file during conversion might cause deadlocks, playing while shared is not a problem.

The file is not in a shared folder. There is 1 folder with 9 Mp3's. This one song is the file that I get the error on. The other 8 files are added to project successfully. What external tool would you suggest that I use to check this file?

Thanks

GSpot is good to analyze a lot of files.

G Spot showed no error and played fine within G Spot. I was able, though, to burn the CD I wanted using Windows Media Player with no errors.

Thanks for your help.

This sounds really odd - I know that there are few cases when a file can not be added for conversion.
These are usually easy to spot;

- protected file, does not play when you copy the file to other computer
- file in use, shared or locked by system (in playlist etc.)
- trojan stream in file, properties show nothing wrong but when copying file it uses more space than it should

Hello mikesev,

If your audio file can be sent by email, can you send it at cedric@vsosoftware.fr

I will check if the problem can be fixed.

Thank you.
