CopyTo Burn Engine has stopped working error

Postby astage » Fri Nov 23, 2012 7:50 pm

I have a problem with CopyTo 5.1.0.6 that is preventing disc burning and even creating an ISO file.
I have been a long-term CopyTo user (v4 and earlier) and have only recently tried installing v.5.1.0.6 after reporting problems noticed with early beta releases of v5.

Yesterday, I needed to compile a CD with about 25MB of data (8-files in total). When the burn button was pressed the program began to compile the disc, appeared to begin to burn, then immediately causes the Windows alert message as below.

"CopyTo Burn Engine has stopped working:

With a physical CD-disc burn, the drive-tray is still locked after closing the Windows dialog and only unlocked after a reboot. The program's task has to be terminated to recover. A burn *did* start (sort of) on the disc, but no data is unreadable and the discs are scrap.

However, this problem is *not* optical-drive related, since *exactly* the same error appears when the CopyTo target is an ISO file.

The only log-files created are "BurningSuite_Crash_PIDxxxx" files, and below are two such logs created for a CD burn and an ISO burn.

There is no problem with burning discs/ISO files with numerous other programs and if CopyTo is downgraded to v4 it burns the same files perfectly.

Unfortunately, I've noticed that many reported bugs in early v5 still exist.

BTW: Before someone jumps down my throat and tells me to turn off PIO-mode. The drives are ***NOT*** in PIO-mode. We have been through this saga before and the VSO utility cannot and does not correctly detect the mode!

If it helps, I have a Windows dump file for one of these crashes. It is 6-Megabyte in size.

Are you adding your files to the Manager, or are you right clicking on them and selecting to burn or create the iso that way?

It is interesting you get this problem creating an ISO, lets use that method to try and find the problem.
With what files are you getting the error with? Any or just some?

If you create a basic text file (notepad) on your desktop and try to burn an iso with it, in the manager or with right click do you get the error?
