well right now there is no side-by-side

but a check box "apply" would allow you to jump back and forth between the changes

Yes that Sounds good. I suppose its six and half a dozen weather it has side by side or the way it is how you mention. Realy would make a great difference to convertx5 with option for controling brightness etc.

So would it be possible to adjust the quality of only the dark parst of movie using brightness/contrast but leave other parts that dont need adjusting the way they originaly are without the adjusted part running through the hole movie? Is that possible to add?

In the future perhaps, but not in the first version 5, or maybe in another product we will develop.

Will we finally get full avisynth support, so that we can have the power of avisynth filter/functions with the power of your software to do the conversions to DVD

I could never get any avisynth script to work, even though convertx manages to load the script

First, XtoDVD4 has become my favorite DVD authoring program replacing 4 others, including Adobe Encore.
The new features for version 5 look great.

If I could request features they would be:
1: Saturation, Gamma, Hue
2: "Play title one after the other" when starting on a chapter other than the first.
3: Background Audio on Menu screen able to play entire length of audio clip.
4: Blu-Ray version (please, please, please!!!)

@BadWikf5150, thanks for your comments.

1: Saturation, Gamma, Hue
2: "Play title one after the other" when starting on a chapter other than the first.
3: Background Audio on Menu screen able to play entire length of audio clip.
4: Blu-Ray version (please, please, please!!!)

1) maybe
2) normally this will be possible
3) blu-ray input yes, for blu-ray output you will need to wait for ConvertXtoHD

And how about a "smart encode" (i.e. just convert an mpg to vobs with no recoding) option for source files that are in the right format and would already fit on the chosen destination disc

vennfam: As a workaround in version 4, you can save the project, open the .XtoDVD file in Notepad, search for "target_size" and adjust it, then re-load the project.

Those would be my top 2 requests as well! #3 would be the ability to change the "quality" setting without losing my menu. (In v4 you can change it from pre-set to automatic, but not back.)

I usually create episodic/collection DVDs rather than movies, and often get halfway through a multi-disc project before I know how best to "package" it...
Taking my best guess at how many videos will fit on a DVD5, I design a menu and create a sample DVD9 ISOs at medium quality (or whatever's appopriate for the material), then based on the post-conversion size and quality, I make adjustments and decide: How many videos will really go on each discs? How many discs? Is there a sensible arrangement using cheap DVD5 discs, or will I need DVD9?
The "automatic" quality setting is very useful, but we're not talking about some advanced AI here -- the estimates are rough and it sometimes makes poor decisions.

Also, I often have to go back and expand/revise an old project. This means switching betwen DVD5/DVD9 of course, and though I try to keep an archive of source videos, sometimes all I have is DVDs/ISOs. "Smart encode" would be terrific; I hate to lose quality through re-conversion.

The video "How to cut unwanted parts of your video with ConvertXtoDVD 5" looks very interesting, but it leaves one question unanswered for me. Since I record a number of television programs for a hearing impaired relative, I need to know how the editing function treats subtitle inputs. Given input ts and srt files that are synchronized, will the synchroniziation be maintained using the new video editing function?

My current procedure is that I edit the recorded program file to remove lead in and lead out time as well as commercials using a competing product. I then use CCExtractor to produce a subtitle file from the closed captions encoded on line 21. I check the timings of the captions against the edited file using Subtitle Workshop, and finally use ConvertXtoDVD to produce a DVD of the program from the mpg and srt files.

I, of course, would like to be able to omit the step using the competing product, but that is only really possible if editing maintains synchronization between the video and subtitle files.

Hi!
Well, real time preview is the best news. Just great.
It would be nice the background audio on Menu Screen play entire length of the audio clip.
And... ¿Template menu editor? Please, it would be wonderful, just the only thing left to be my favorite software!
Thanx

If you read the newsletter, you've most certainly watched the video with the new feature of the forthcoming V5. If youdon't read the newsletter, well you should :-)

anyway, here is the video about this feature that will enable you to cut/remove parts of the video:

I had a look at the posted youtube video, and it is excellent, but i have a UI suggestion that would be quite minor.

I see there a lot of mouse movement required to change between the "frames/seconds" droplist and then moving the mouse to the arrow keys just to move through the video.

Might I suggest a different option...put all these controls on a single line something like, two radio buttons (frame or seconds), the value, and then the arrow keys...like so:

[x] Seconds [ ] Frames <<< [textbox for value you want] >>>

This will make it more efficient and give the user total control.

Excellent product and i look forward to seeing v5 coming out soon.

I second the notion of "side-by-side" comparisons. They are much easier to work with from a UI perspective and usability is what separates superior software from the rest.

no offence to our UK friends :-)

it will cause some.

americans are used to looking up a union jack for english. it is the accepted short hand. and not offensive to anyone.

it is the first time i have ever seen a USA flag used for english and it looks like an insult.

Come on flagpole, climb down off yours  . I've seen many sites with US flags for english; and, many with Union Jacks, and a few with a 1/2 & 1/2 of each flag. What does it matter. Anyone over 2 years old can probably figure out either one means english language without the need of jingoism.

Should, of course, be an Australian flag.

It will be nice to add options for audio synchronisation purposes. Right now If I choose to add 25fps audio track ( extracted from DVD for example ) to MKV 23.97 fps (video source file) there will be slight sound delay.

i think it would be good if the installer included the option of ntsc, pal or both. rather than just ntsc or pal.

given that most of the world can now handle both. and ntsc commercial dvds are being released in europe.
