I've been burning movies (mainly, if not solely, .avi format) using ConvertXtoDVD ver. 2.2.3.258 for a while now, and quite frankly, it's always been a crap-shoot whether or not the aspect ratio is going to fit on one DVD player or another. Sometimes it's an issue based on the DVD player, but most of the time the issue is simply in the burn itself. I don't know how to fix it, and it seems that no matter what the ratio is set at, there is not effect on the way the DVD plays (note, this isn't a DVD burner issue as it's occurred with several different ones that I've installed).

Here's the log:

That this is problem because the movie is usually cropped on all sides, sometimes only two.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I gather you have CXD set to Video Standard: NTSC and TV Screen to Automatic. That will provide the proper conversion, and it will be burned accordingly.

But what do you mean about aspect ratio not fitting different DVD players? The first thing you have to make sure is that any DVD player that you use to play the video has its settings set to Letterbox. If you do that, then the movie should look basically the same on any regular TV that you view it on (with overscan varying a little and therefore perhaps cropping a slightly different amount from the edges of the video that are at the edge of the TV screen).

Could you be more specific, and provide screenshots please.

Regards,

JoeB

I mean that a few of the DVD's that I've burnt have worked on one DVD player and not on another.

On the other hand, there have been some DVD's that seemed to have been burnt already cropped, and that no setting change or TV format change can display the full picture.

I'm not sure what you want screenshots of.

in the same time, VSO will not investigate the case in the version 2, only if the problem can be reproduced with the version 3 where a lot of changes has been implemented to have a better control of the aspect ratio.

You still aren't being very specific. Your first post spoke about aspect ratio. Now you're saying that a few DVD's have "worked" on one DVD player and not another. What do you mean by "worked"? Do you mean they play on some DVD players but don't play on others?

If so, it's because the players they don't work with likely are finicky about the DVD type and quality they will play, so it depends on the media id of your discs.

Please post your burning/conversion log so we can see more details - it's in Help>Open Log File.

After you convert the file but before burning, play it in a software player on your computer. If there is no cropping then it converted properly. And then, after you burn it, also play the DVD on your PC. It should look exactly the same as it did after conversion but before burning. Burning does not crop movies.

If you then play it in a standalone player to view on TV and some parts are cropped, it's either the settings in the DVD player or overscan (all TV's cut off a little bit at the edges where the video touches the edge of the screen).

If, on the other hand, you play the converted but not burned video on your PC and it is cropped compared to the original .avi file (i.e., if edges are chopped off) then there is likely something wrong with your settings in CXD.

None of that has to do with aspect ratio. Aspect ratio is when you start with an image or video that has x number of pixels wide and y number of pixels high and then you increase or decrease the number of pixels in one direction. If the pixels are increased PROPORTIONALLY in the other direction then the aspect ratio is maintained. If the pixels in the other direction are not increased in proportion to the pixel increase in the first direction, then the aspect ratio of the image/video is changed and the image will be distorted (people/objects looking either too tall and skinny or too short and fat).
